To any knitters looking for deals, I just thought I'd pass on that Mouliné is having a closing sale. All yarns are 20% to 50% off. I went in today, and they have a ton of stock.
They will open their new store in NDG in mid July. |

What you're hearing is the way 20th century technology tunneled through a 19th century network:What you're hearing is how a network designed to send the noises made by your muscles as they pushed around air came to transmit anything, or the almost-anything that can be coded in 0s and 1s.The frequencies of the modem's sounds represent parameters for further communication. In the early going, for example, the modem that's been dialed up will play a note that says, "I can go this fast." As a wonderful old 1997 website explained, "Depending on the speed the modem is trying to talk at, this tone will have a different pitch." That is to say, the sounds weren't a sign that data was being transferred: they were the data being transferred. This noise was the analog world being bridged by the digital. If you are old enough to remember it, you still knew a world that was analog-first. I used to spend afternoons trying to whistle lines of specific ASCII characters into the 110 baud analog coupler on the teletype. My inability to do this very well made me realize I was probably not cut out to be a singer. Oh, and also, the fact that I was trying to do this at all. For some reason, ampersands were easiest. Dear Lazyweb, I have an Xcode project that builds multiple Loadable Bundles for MacOS. Under the "Architectures" setting, I have "Debug" and "Release" lines, and compiled output shows up under the build/Debug/ or build/Release/ directories. So far so good. Now I also want to be able to compile that same code for iOS. I'd expect the output to show up under build/Debug-iphonesimulator/ or somesuch. How do I accomplish this? I would like the answer to not be, "copy the entire Xcode project" or "have two targets for each bundle". Since the difference between compiling for "Debug" and for "Release" is the same as the difference between compiling for Mac and iOS -- it's just compiler options -- I should be able to do this with the same target, right? Maybe when I say "Target" I really mean "Scheme" or "Destination" or "Product", because I have no fucking idea what Xcode actually means by any of those words any more. Xcode 4.3.2, MacOS 10.7.4. This morning, I found a grey striped kitten in my yard, I am pretty certain that I am feeding the stray mother (as well as any other hungry stray who comes looking for a meal). I would very much like to home this little thing before winter hits.
I currently have five cats living with me, the latest addition was a homeless baby kitten who was living under my deck last summer. I have reached my stray cat adoption saturation point, so I'm appealing to anyone who can help this little guy out.
The no-kill shelters are already full to capacity, I have checked. The options are death, or a life in the wild, as far as I can see.
If anyone has an idea I haven't thought of yet, your suggestions are welcome too. |

Good evening!
Just wondering if anybody has any ideas where I could take evening or morning ceramics classes in Montreal? I did a course at the Visual Arts Centre last summer, which was great, but am wondering about other places (maybe less pricey?).
I've done some online searches but can't find anything else. Have I missed some amazing ceramics school that everybody else knows about? I hope so.
Thanks in advance for your help, kindly LiveJournal folk.Current Mood: mellow

This is an article making fun of ROFLcon (which is, really, shooting recursive fish in a meta-barrel) but this bit is worth passing on: Double Rainbow Guy, aka Bear Vasquez, relates how a high school in Iceland flew him over, put on a play for him, let him sit on a throne as he watched it, and smothered him in affection as though he were a minor deity. "The principal made me the protector of the student body!" Bear says, both astonished and confused. The next day, his Icelandic hosts took him to swim in a hot emerald lake. "Dude, it's trippy," he says. He didn't know if it was appropriate to go swimming with these students. "I'm this old fat man, right?" But sure enough, everyone was okay with the protector of the student body swimming with their daughters. "All the girls under a hot waterfall. I'm holding them in my arms. They're all surrounding me, putting this cream on me. It was mind-boggling. I was, like, wow!" I tell Bear he leads a weird life. "No shit!" he agrees. Previously. Mirrored from jwz.org.
